Emus and Longreach

Why did the chicken cross the road..? No idea, but then again, I had no idea why these emus wanted to cross the road until I saw their brothers (and I presume sisters) on the other side. Stopped for them but they were reluctant to cross...!! So after having a quick chat (read photo shoot), I drove on into Longreach...!! Didn't meet anyone spectacular so far - never know who I might meet at dinner this evening - off to Qantas Museum tomorrow - can't wait..!!

Blue Heelers Pub and Winton

Again a mixture of photos of Hynuna (again a population of 20) and a famour pub - the Blue Heelers Pub..!! Also a few photos of Winton..!!

Walkabout Creek - from Crocodile Dundee

Matilda Highway caught my fancy, but the highlight was McKinlay with a population of 20, and one of the most watched pubs in the world - the Walkabout Creek hotel from the Crocodile Dundee movies..!!!

Mt. Isa to Cloncurry

Bear with me here..!! The photos don't display the way I want them. The Burke and Wills monument was before Cloncurry..!! I was amused about the preserving water when it has flooded down for months..!! And the cute motel in Cloncurry caught my eye..!!

Underground Hospital (2)

Truly an amazing place to visit..!!

Underground Hospital (1)

The Underground Hospital is a very interesting structure. As the plaque says, it was built as an air raid shelter for hospital after Darwin was attacked..!! Most interesting (eventually hehe)..!!

Mt. Isa (3)

Naturally, I had to get into the act once again - all you poor sods having to look at constant reminders of me..!! Just look at how close the mine and processing is to the city..!!! Glad to be leaving here tomorrow morning - mind you, did get to the Underground Hospital and will post photos of it shortly after my visit down the mine..!! :-)

Mt. Isa (2)

The mine site photos were taken no more than 400 metres from the centre of town...!! It is just much too close..!! The fumes plummeting from the mine are terrible and I cannot imagine the impact if the wind turns around the other way..!! Not good for the health of anyone let alone the older folks and children..!! Really shocking..!!

Mt Isa (1)

This is as close I will probably get to the Underground Hospital Museum..!! Bugger..!! Also I thought you might like to see the non-indian Thai Tandoori Indian restaurant takeaway..!! A mining roadtrain also included and a couple of other pictures. It is amazing how close the massive mine is to the heart of the city..!!

Indian at Mt. Isa

I couldn't resist this post..!! Went to the one and only Indian Tandoori restaurant in Mt. Isa this evening, only to find that it is takeaway rather than a restaurant, and, furthermore, it only sells Thai food..!! hehe How fantastic is that..?? Don't ya just love Queensland..!!! :-)

Mt. Isa - largest City in the world... the size of Switzerland

Mount Isa, the largest city in the world..!! What a joke..!! Heavily industrial city built around the mining industry which is very evident. Made even more strange when I realised who the local federal MP was - the nutter himself, Bob Katter - you know the independent (now labour) bloke with the hat..!! Then I realised the electorate was called Kennedy - even stranger..!! Will get more photos of town tomorrow. Meantime off to the local indian restaurant for some cuisine..!!

Camooweal - Droving Centre of Australia

Finally arrived in Queensland, just amazing countryside. You know, as I have been travelling, I have been so blessed to meet some beautiful people, yes, you all know who you are..!! Graeme and Sue, who hail from NSW Central Coast are another example..!! (Sue from North Rocks originally) These two beautiful people, who made a positive difference to my day today, run the local General Store and Post Office in Camooweal - so if you are travelling through Camooweal - please stop off and say hi to these two lovely people and buy some stuff. Guys, many thanks for your hospitality, and friendship..!! And for the water bottle - was truly appreciated. God Bless you and your store..!! Camooweal is a strange and small town which was the hub of the droving business many years ago.. Sue and Graeme were looking for a business to run and guess where they ended up..!!!
